  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 large white onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 330 ml dark beef broth
  • 300 ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the minced beef seasoned with salt and pepper, then set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onions until translucent; add minced garlic for one minute.
  4. Stir in flour and gradually add dark beef broth while scraping up bits from the pan. Simmer gently.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet along with beef stock, tomato paste, and thyme; simmer for about 45 minutes.
  6. Transfer filling into a pie dish, cover with rolled-out puff pastry, seal edges, and brush with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
