Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 pounds)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) onion soup mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Pat the chicken breasts dry, then season both sides with garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
  3. In an oven-safe skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the seasoned chicken for about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Remove the chicken and sauté sliced onions in the same skillet for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  5. Add chicken broth to deglaze the skillet, scraping up any browned bits. Stir in sour cream and onion soup mix until combined.
  6. Return the seared chicken to the skillet, spooning sauce over it and sprinkling Parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  8. Let rest for about 5 minutes before garnishing with parsley and serving.
